Basic concepts: Control System Fundamentals, Notion of feedback, open- and closed-loop systems. Modeling and representations of control systems: Ordinary differential equations, Transfer functions, Block diagrams, Signal flow graphs (SFG). State variables: SFG to state variables, transfer function to state variable and state variable to transfer function. Feedback control system: Closed loop systems, parameter sensitivity, transient characteristics of control systems, effect of third pole and zero on the system response and system types and steady state error. Routh stability criterion. Analysis of feedback control system: Roof locus method and frequency response method. Design of feedback control systems: Controllability and observability, root locus, frequency response and state variable methods. Digital control system: introduction, sampled data systems, stability analysis in Z-domain.
