Bohr’s Model of Atom: Energy levels, Orbits, Quantum numbers, Stationary states, Ground & Excited states. The Aufbau Method and Electron Structures: Aufbau method, Orbital energy, Pauli Exclusion Principle, Hund’s rule. Binding in Molecules: Valence band theory, Dot and cross diagrams for diatomic, triatomic and quadratomic molecules, different types of Bonding. Chemical Changes: Physical & Chemical changes, Equations for chemical reactions, different types of reaction. Acids, Salts and Bases: Acids, salts and bases, PH-scale, ionic nature, chemical reactions, reaction characteristics of acid, salts and bases. Kinetic Theory of Gases: Kinetic theory, pressure of ideal gas, relation between energy and temperature. Periodicity of Physical Properties: Periodicity of ionization energies, atomic volume, radius, valences, electro negativity, melting and boiling points. Hydrogen and Hydrides: Large scale extraction, uses & chemical properties of hydrogen, Hydride formation of metals and non-metals. Water: Chemical reactions, cycle, pollution and treatment of water, Heavy water and estimation of oxygen in water. Groups of Periodic table: Nature of the elements and reactions of the different groups of the periodic table.
Organic Chemistry: The covalent Bond and the Geometry of Molecules: Electronic structure of atoms, the Lewis model of covalent bond, atomic valences, extension of atomic orbital in space, covalent bond by overlapping of atomic orbital, polarity of bond & molecules, Common organic functional groups, Isomerism and Resonance. Alkenes & Alkynes: Structure, nomenclature, physical properties, preparations and different reactions of alkenes, Alkynes, the structure, nomenclature, physical properties, preparations and different reactions of alkynes. Benzene and the Concept of Aromacity: Different structure, Resonance energy, Nomenclature & sources of Aromatic hydrocarbons, Concept of aroma city, Phenols and Di-substituted derivatives of Benzene.
